The Marvels of Sorrento

  • Days: 4
  • Nights: 3

1st Day: Sorrento

Upon your arrival at Naples airport you will be welcomed and transferred by private car to a 5 stars hotel, located in the surroundings of Sorrento. You will be given enough time to settle in and then a local guide will lead you through this beautiful town built on tuff cliffs, rising sheer from the sea. Sorrento has been romantically renamed as “The Gentle” because of its mild climate and the natural beauty of its inlets and bays along the coast. You will admire the main square named after the famous poet Torquato Tasso, born here in 1544 and then the Sedile Dominova with its shining majolica dome and magnificent frescoes, where in the past the local aristocracy used to meet to discuss about important problems and matters regarding the town. At the end of the walking tour you will reach your hotel by a horse-drawn carriage (the typical carrozzella), passing through the picturesque old town centre with its narrow streets paved with large slabs of volcanic rock, its buildings adorned with balconies and its typical houses connected by small arches. Night at the hotel.

2nd Day: Nerano/Capri

After breakfast optional excursion full day with a local guide starting with a transfer by private car to Sorrento port where a skipper will be waiting for you on board a private boat (Fiart 40 Genius or similar – 42 foot). You will admire the marvelous coast of Sorrento peninsula from the sea until you reach Amalfi, whose cathedral is a magnificent example of Moorish art and architecture. Your visit will proceed to the bay of Nerano where you can stop to enjoy your lunch in an exclusive restaurant on the sea. In the afternoon you will reach Capri, renamed as “the island of the dreams” because of its inaccesible coast, blue waters and its lush vegetation. Once on the island, opportunity of a private taxi service (optional) to reach the famous Piazzetta, the small square heart of the island, and the fabulous Gardens of Augustus from where you will have a breath-taking view of the Faraglioni rocks. Return to the hotel for the night.

3rd Day: Pompei/Amalfi

After breakfast departure by private car toward Pompeii, one of the most famous sites in the world. This trade town, which counted approximately 20.000 inhabitants, was completely destroyed during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD and remained buried under tons of ash for centuries, in a total oblivion. The excavations started in 18th cen. and still continue today. The emotion you will feel entering Porta Marina, main entrance to the town of Pompeii, is beyond words.. Walking through its streets, admiring the Forum, its temples and theatres, entering its houses and villas and imagining the old daily life of the town is a journey back to the roots of our civilisation. The visit will start with the Forum, centre of Pompeii public life, where the most important buildings were located. Here religious ceremonies took place, commercial agreements were made and justice was practised. Your guide will then lead you to some of the most important and popular places of the site such as Via dell’Abbondanza (decumanus maximus), the thermal baths, the Lupanare (brothel) and the bakery. You cannot leave Pompeii without admiring the House of Vettii, whose decorations are ones of the most sumptuous of the whole site. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon half day guided excursion to Amalfi.

The Amalfi coast is renowned all over the world for the beauty of its curvy coastline and the pictoresque villages located on it, such as Positano, Furore and Conca dei Marini. You will first stop in Positano where, from a panoramic terrace, you will admire the breath-taking view of this colorful village, famous for its cube shaped white and pink houses gradually descending down to the sea and its cotton fashion creations. Your visit proceeds right to Amalfi, first Maritim Republic of Italian history, where you will visit Saint Andrew Cathedral, magnificent example of Moorish art and architecture and the Paradise Cloister, a complex adjacent to the cathedral. The visit continues through the characteristic labyrinth of streets, vaulted passages, stairways and small squares in which fountains murmur.. Situated in a higher position respect to the town centre, there is Valle dei Mulini (Mills’ Valley) with its falls in the past used for the functioning of renowned paper mills.
Return to the hotel and overnight stay.
