Day 1: Arrival in Scalea (Riviera die Cedri)
Arrival in Scalea and accommodation in 4 * hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Diamante and Paola
Breakfast in hotel. Departure to Diamante.
The village was founded in 1638 and it is best known for the murals. In 1981 began 80 artists with paintings and many poets, writers and journalists have left their marks on the walls.
In order to see these murals we recommend to make a walk in the village. Visit of the Accademia del Peperoncino. Arrival to Paola. Paola is the birthplace of Saint Francis, the Saint patron of Calabria. Visit of the Basilica. Back to Scalea. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel.
Day 3: Morano Calabro – Castrovillari – Altomonte – Civita
After breakfast drive to Morano Calabro and visit the charming village. The constructions are so close to each other to seem, on the backdrop of Pollino, like a dreamlike perfectly conical hill, constructed by only houses. Arrival in Altomonte, a typical Calabrian small town with numerous steep stairs and winding streets. Above the town, the Gothic church of Santa Maria della Consolazione.
Finally, we reach Civita, and visit the ethnic museum “Arbëreshë” with his Albanian costumes, Visit the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta which was built in 1650.
Back to the hotel in Scalea. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Possibility of an overnight in Civita in a B&B and dinner in a typical restaurant.
Day 4: Reggio Calabria and Scilla
Departure for Scilla, the characteristic little town in the enchanting scenery of the Costa Viola. Here you will visit the old fishing village which is known as Chianalea. The second stop is Ruffo Castle and St. Rocco’s church. After you will go to Reggio Calabria, an elegant city in Liberty style, which belongs to the Italian Art Nouveau period.
Here you will also visit the National Archeological Museum which holds the richest collection of Magna Grecia finds and the Bronzes of Riace. Then you will take a walk on the seafront promenade which was defined by Gabriele D’Annunzio as “The most beautiful kilometre in Italy” and then you will visit the Roman Baths, the Greek walls and the cathedral.
Dinner and overnight stay in a 4* hotel in Reggio Calabria.
Day 5: Reggio Calabria – Gerace – Locri- Tropea/Capo Vaticano
After breakfast departure for Gerace and Locri. Visit of Gerace, “the hundred churches town” . The visit of this ancient and medieval place permit us to see the oldest churches of the area. We will visit the Norman Cathedral, the biggest in Calabria. This little town is an important tourist and cultural centre. The historical center is situated between the Tribunale square and the Tocco square. In this last square there are some palaces that date back to the 19th century.
The ancient town of Locri is 3 Km far away from the modern town of Locri: the first one has the most important archeological testimonies: there are the ruins of the temples, of the theatre, of the wall and there is the antiquarium, it is a museum where you find testimonies of the Greek period.
Departure to Tropea. Dinner and overnight in a 4* hotel in Tropea.
Day 6: Tropea, Pizzo and Capo Vaticano
Pizzo and Tropea are the two most precious jewels of the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria. Your first stop is Pizzo Calabro, one of the most beautiful and most famous fishing villages with a historical centre characterized by narrow streets and small squares.
Here you will visit the small church of Piedigrotta which is excaveted in limestone cliffs right above the sea. Before going to Tropea, you should try the famous truffle ice cream, which is well-known in the whole world. In Tropea you will visit the historical centre rich in ancient palaces and the Norman cathedral. You will also see the Church of St. Mary of the Isle which is surrounded by the beautiful white sandy beaches with a view above the Aeolian Islands. Back to the hotel with a stop in Capo Vaticano. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 7: Tropea – Lamezia Terme – Tropea
Departure for a modern and complete farm of Lamezia Terme. This farm is in activity for more than two hundred years. Five hundred hectares of olive groves, vineyards and citrus groves, including the sowable land which feeds six hundred cattles and two hundred and fifty of these produce 6,600 liters of milk per day. Here you will visit the mill, the cellar, you will walk in the olive grove and also visit of cattle rearing. Two wines and oil tastings. This visit will last about 1 hour and a half.
Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 8: Departure
After breakfast departure from the hotel to Lamezia Terme airport.
