Who has never dreamt of going to the Carnival of Venice? During these 12 days before Mardi Gras, the Serenissime’s streets change into a huge dancing place where people from all over come to have fun. The sumptuous and colorful costumes as well as the masks give the carnival a unique atmosphere.
This tour is available from 29 January to 01 February 2016 (guaranteed departures with min. 15 participants).
1st Day: Arrival in Venice
Arrival of the group in the evening in the nearby Venetiantowns such as Lido di Jesolo or Sottomarina, on the Adriaticcoast, which is an enchanting tourist area well known for its history. Accommodation in a hotel followed by a welcome drink, dinner and overnight stay.
2nd Day: Venice
After breakfast departure by coach for Punta Sabbioni where you will embark by private boat for the romantic town of Venice. Upon arrival you will meet with your guide, and together discover some of the most important monuments in Venice such as San Marco’s Square, The Golden Church, (the official Church of the Serenissima Republic),Rialto Bridge and the famous covered bridge which connects the Ducal Palace to the New Prisons- called ‘The Bridge of Sighs’ because of the sighs of prisoners who once crossed it on their way to prison. Lunch in a typical restaurant.
In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to discover this splendid town by walking through the little streets and canals perhaps take a romantic tour in gondola, all the while enjoying the many performances on show as part of the annual Carnival, with hundreds of masked people creating a magical atmosphere! You could also visit, with a guide, the Frari district less famous but equally fascinating with its gothic style Church and The San Rocco’s School. This school is intriguing both for its architecture and for its ornate decoration designed and created by some of the most important Gothic artists of the time .
Late in the afternoon return by private boat to Punta Sabbioni, where you will find your bus waiting to drive you to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
3rd day: Islands of the Lagoon
Breakfast in the hotel and transfer to Punta Sabbioni where you can take the private boat for an OPTIONAL EXCURSION to the islands of the lagoon. The first island we visit is the island of Murano, famous for its glass production and where you can watch a demonstration of glass blowing, which will allow you to observe the wonderful skill of the glass blowers as they create masterpieces in front of you.
We will also stop on the island of Burano , also known as ‘Fisherman’s Island’ and famous for its coloured houses and its embroidery work. Free time then return to Venice for lunch. Free afternoon to explore and to witness the many street performances taking place during carnival week. Return to Punta Sabbioni by private boat. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel.
4th day:
Breakfast and departure. End of our services.
